I met Amy in the comfort of her own home to take her maternity photographs. Since I photograph most of my portrait work in outdoor natural settings, it was a nice change of pace not to have to worry about the timing of the sun and other elements. Working in a private home can have it’s own challenges though. You definitely have to use your imagination, as I did with Amy when we used her bathtub window as a backdrop and her stairs as a ladder.

I also got such a kick out of Riley Amy’s Schnoodle, yes that’s right… half miniature schnauzer and half poodle. I actually grew up with the same mix breed of dog and I always thought my parents made up the funny name. Now Scnoodles along with Goldendoodles, Labradoodles and everything oodle have become really popular pets.

Melissa was looking for professional photographs for her business cards, website and other promotional materials. And she liked the idea of taking them on location to create a more personal feel rather then a traditional studio setup with a backdrop.

Last weekend Amy Sandoval and I got together and decided to take a drive around South Virginia Beach. The goal was to find some new places to take pictures. Although we didn’t find any truly unique spots, we did come across this majestic purple field. I’d love to take a portrait in a rural environment like this… I so often shoot at the beach, but there is a lot more behind this city’s name, Virginia Beach has some beautiful farm land too!
