Beach portraits are timeless for so many reasons. Besides the obvious beautiful backdrop it creates, it is also the perfect place for kids and adults to let loose. I always encourage my clients to bring things to play with as keeping active helps make for fun candid photos. I would love to photograph a family surf session sometime so please let me know if you are interested! I am local and licensed to photograph on Isle of Palms, South Carolina.

I met Roslyn at Fort Warden, the same place I had photographed her sister's senior session a few years back - https://www.catiesphotography.com/post/art-and-dance-senior-session. It is a special place for their family and such a cool location for photography. Working here with the lovely and adventurous Rosyln felt very much like a commercial fashion shoot. Lots of different looks, locations, movements and even a bold dip in the water at the end!

Some would say that these two forms of photography can not go together. Photojournalism is telling a story while portraits are a deliberate interpretation of a subject. However I have never seen myself as one or the other type of photographer. Yes, my photography sessions are planned and the focus is making beautiful pictures, but I also strive to capture the interactions behind the scenes which make a unique and true story of my clients. These are always my favorites, but I know that there is also great value in tradition too.
